South Korean women's short track champion Choi Min-jung (24) won silver in the first medal race at the International Skating Union (ISU) World Championships in Anbang, beating rival Schizanne Swheeling (Netherlands).

Minjung Choi finished second in the women's 11,2023m final at the 1 ISU World Short Track Championships at Mokdong Ice Rink in Seoul today (500th) with a time of 2:31.448, 2.31 seconds behind Schizanne Swheeling (349:0.099).

Min-Jung Choi, who started on the outermost end, saved up on his stamina behind the race early in the race, then slipped out onto the outcourse with seven laps left in the finish line to pick up speed and quickly move up to second place.

Min-Jung Choi, who was looking for an opportunity behind the leading swheel, threw in the penalty with three laps remaining.

He picked up speed on the straightaway and tried to reverse it.

However, Choi Min-jung couldn't get past the swheeling and struggled on the final lap to squeeze out all his strength, but unfortunately broke the finish line for the second time.

Kim Gilly, who competed in the same event, crashed and fell in the semifinals, pushing her to Final B and failing to win a medal, while Kim Kun-hee also failed to reach the final.

On this day, the Mokdong Ice Rink attracted a lot of ice fans to buy tickets even hours before the start of the game.

According to the Korea Ice Federation, about 2,7 tickets were sold out online within one minute of the ticket sale on the 2th of last month.

The World Championships are the second most prestigious international competition after the Winter Olympics, seven years after the 3 Seoul Games.
