Dubai Racing Club has announced the sponsorship of the 27th Dubai World Cup race by the leading UAE carrier Emirates Airline, the most prominent event of the UAE racing season and one of the most famous horse races in the world, which will be held as part of the ninth and main round of the Dubai World Cup night on March 25.
Major General Dr. Mohammed Essa Al Adhab, Director General of Dubai Racing Club, said in a press release yesterday: "We are delighted to have Emirates Airline once again as a sponsor of the Dubai World Cup, and they are an integral part of the growth of this prestigious race, whose story will not be the same without their support, one of the most prominent airlines in the world, and we highly appreciate their contributions to us at Dubai Racing Club, and we look forward to an evening of exciting racing with them once again. In its ninth round, it will witness the most prominent event of the season (Dubai World Cup) sponsored by Emirates Airline."
The Dubai Racing Club statement explained that the race «Dubai World Cup» dedicated to horses of the first category «Group 1» the highest ranked in the world, is taking place over a distance of 2000 meters on the dirt of Meydan Racecourse, with a prize money of $ 12 million, in a race celebrating its 27th anniversary since the launch of its first edition in 1996, and won by horses famous around the world, such as «Cigar», «Dubai Millennium», «Curlin», «Urgate» and «Thunder Snow», before the last edition witnessed the victory of the representative Saudi Arabia's Country Grammer, which is expected to return in 2023 under the supervision of its famous American coach Bob Baffert to defend his title.
The statement confirmed that the main half of the Dubai World Cup will be held after eight races on the cup night, including the Longines Dubai Shaimaa Classic with a prize of six million US dollars, when the defending champion Shahryar returns to face one of the best horses in the world and his compatriot "Aquincus", provided that the half is preceded by the Dubai Turf race, which witnessed in its last edition a draw for first place, when "Load North" returns to defend its title for the last two editions, with the ambition of winning the title for the third time in a row.
The statement added that the evening includes two speed races over a distance of 1200 meters, with the third half «Dubai Golden Shaheen» for horses of the first category «Group 1» on the dirt ground, and «Al Quoz Sprint» for horses of the first category «Group 1» on the grass of Meydan, while the three-year-old horses compete for 100 qualifying points for the famous American «Kentucky Derby», by competing for the title of «UAE Derby», which takes place in the fifth round for a distance of 1900 meters sand, which is allocated to horses of the second category «Group 2».
The statement pointed to a strong confrontation between the elite horses over a mile of sand, in the second run of the evening «Godolphin Mile» for horses of the second category «Group 2» over a distance of 1600 meters, while the «Dubai Gold Cup» for horses of the second category «Group 2» is an endurance test extending over a distance of 3200 meters on the turf track, with the evening starting with the «Dubai Kahila Classic» race with a prize of one million US dollars for purebred Arabian horses.
