FC Augsburg continues to collect its points for another year in the Bundesliga at home. The hard-fought 2:1 (1:1) against SV Werder Bremen was already the fourth home win this year, the points account grew to 27 points. In a game marked by individual dropouts, Dion Beljo (5th minute) and Arne Maier (46th) scored for FCA in front of 30,660 spectators on Saturday, who proved to be quick starters in both halves. Jens Stage was successful for the guests (14th).

Everyone was looking forward to the duel of the German goalscorers. But that initially failed. Augsburg's U-21 European champion Mergim Berisha sat on the bench after muscular problems during the week and could not compete with Niclas Füllkrug on the pitch. Meanwhile, Werder's World Cup participant took action right after kick-off. Augsburg goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz was able to fend off his shot just to the corner (3.).

FCA coach Enrico Maaßen, however, proved a good hand, because for Berisha he put winter access Beljo in his starting eleven. And the 21-year-old Croatian demonstrated his class with his first Bundesliga goal. He took a long ball with him outstandingly. Then he claimed the ball against Werders defenders Amos Pieper and Marco Friedl and scored in the fall with left into the long corner. A class goal of the almost two-meter-tall attacker.

Error game in Augsburg

What followed was a game with amazing slapstick mistakes by individual actors. The fluttery FCA defender Renato Veiga, whom Maaßen redeemed after 34 minutes and replaced with Maximilian Bauer, played the ball into Niklas Schmidt's foot in his own penalty area. But the man from Bremen did not accept the gift (10th). Then Gikiewicz, who let a cross from Leonardo Bittencourt pass - Stage headed the ball into the empty goal.

The error game continued. A misunderstanding between Pieper and Christian Groß opened Ermedin Demirovic the big chance to 2:1. But Augsburg's attacker could not overcome Bremen's goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka (38.).

Füllkrug remained after the last attack of the first half of the game even longer battered on the grass. He was treated but returned to the pitch after the break. The 30-year-old national striker remained Bremen's most dangerous player. However, Maier became the match winner, who immediately after the re-kick-off on Demirovic's pass for the Augsburg lead again.

The 2:1 defended the hosts passionately and energetically against onrushing Bremen, who did not come to the decisive conclusion. When Mitchell Weiser fell in the penalty area shortly before the end, Bremen demanded a penalty in vain. Augsburg's top striker Berisha had also come into the game after 68 minutes, but remained without decisive offensive actions.
