22-year-old Jakob Ingebrigtsen from Norway broke through when he took gold in both 1,500 and 5,000 meters at the EC in Berlin 2018. Tonight he was a big favorite when the EC final was decided in Istanbul.

Ingebrigtsen took the lead right from the start.

One by one had to let go and before the last lap, only the British Neil Gourley and the French Azeddine Habz were able to follow.

Gourley tried to challenge the Norwegian star in the race but was unable to overtake.

The Norman held the lead from start to finish and won in 3:33.95, a new championship record.

- What a race he runs, says SVT's expert Alhaji Jeng.
