Today's innovation should be of interest to those looking to carry heavy things on a bike.

Until now, there were only cargo bikes.

A new option is being developed: the electrically assisted trailer.

A “smart” electric trailer, we will say.

Since it will compensate for all the effort necessary to tow it.

I don't know if you've ever had to tow a bike trailer, but it's pretty confusing.

Not only the balance and behavior of the bike change.

But in addition, you have to redouble your efforts even with an electric bike.

These new trailers will rely on sensors to measure the effort required to pull them.

They will then automatically adjust balance and power assistance.

Today, some models are narrow enough to overtake without problems on cycle paths.

Others are capable of carrying up to 250 kilos of load.

Finally, this may interest parents, there are also trailers where you can install two child bike seats.

This can avoid taking the car to accompany siblings to school.

These trailers, can they fit any bike?

Yes, any: electric or normal.

A clip is installed under the saddle which allows them to be hooked or unhooked in a few seconds.

They can therefore be easily shared between relatives or neighbours.

Once the children are dropped off at school, either we detach the trailer and we go to work with the bike alone.

Either we simply remove the seats and we will have more room for shopping than with a basket or a bag.

That's the novelty: so far, there were mainly trailers for professionals (for deliveries, for example).

From now on, we are starting to see models designed especially for individuals, especially those that allow children to be accommodated.

It's the return of the scooter in a way...

Added versatility.

Because the scooters of the time (and their heirs the cargo bikes) are still very bulky and difficult to park.

Whereas a trailer comes off when it's no longer needed.

It is also much cheaper: between 700 and 1,500€, while cargo bikes easily exceed 3,000€.

It's a real trend now: keep your bike, but multiply the accessories around it.
