To the question "Do you think that Sweden should organize the Winter Olympics in Sweden in 2030?"

48 percent answered "no" while 37 percent answered "yes".

16 percent answered "don't know".

The difference between no and yes is statistically assured, according to Novus.

When SVT Sport presents the result to SOK's acting vice-chairman Hans von Uthmann, he sees the result as quite natural.

- I think it's quite healthy.

The feasibility study is only a week old and we haven't presented anything.

So when people are faced with the question of something they don't know or know what it means, it's probably quite healthy, he says.

What can be inferred from the results is that younger Swedes wanted to see the Olympics in Sweden.

Among 18-35-year-olds, 51 percent want to be able to see Olympic competitions at home in 2030. Among 65-84-year-olds, on the other hand, 56 percent want Sweden to refrain from hosting the games.

There is a party political difference

There are no geographical differences in the view of the Olympics in Sweden, but there is a party political difference among the voters.

- Among SD sympathizers, there is a clear majority who are against a Swedish Olympics.

Among both S and M sympathizers, there are about as many who are for as against, says Torbjörn Sjöström, CEO of Novus.

Angelika Bengtsson (SD), sports policy spokesperson, is not particularly surprised by the numbers.

- No not really.

We are entering an economic recession with inflation, we have many people who cannot afford to pay their electric bills, we have expensive fuel prices.

I am quite sure that my voters want to prioritize this over an Olympic event, says Bengtsson.

Advocates joint arrangement

It is not that SD sympathizers are less interested in sports?

- No, I find it difficult to see that, says Bengtsson, who believes that the SD as a party is not against the Olympics per se, but believes that it should be arranged together with other Nordic countries.

- I have previously advocated that we jointly, with our Nordic countries, arrange major championships, such as the Olympics.
