Khorfakkan causes Sharjah to lose the "lead and runner-up"
Sharjah team received a painful blow today, losing in the "killer" time to its host Khorfakkan with a clean goal in the 89th minute, from a header by Portuguese player Elton Felipei during the meeting that brought them together in the 17th round of the ADNOC Professional League. This goal caused Sharjah to lose the chance to take the lead and also lost the second place, which went to Al Ain, who beat Kalba 2-3. With this result, Shabab Al-Ahli remained the leader of the league with 36 points, compared to 34 points for Sharjah third on goal difference from runners-up Al Ain with the same number of points, while Khorfakkan advanced in the standings and reached 19 points.
This is Sharjah's third defeat of the season, and comes a week before Al Ain in the Super Cup. Sharjah, who played the match with all its basic elements, suffered a lot during the match and Sharjah lacked offensive solutions, and also lost the services of its star Pjanic to injury, as he left the field in the 18th minute, and was replaced by Majid Hassan.
