After some video evidence discussions, FC Augsburg celebrated the next 1-0 victory against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, which was still unsuccessful under Pellegrino Matarazzo, thanks to joker Fredrik Jensen. After the repeated bankruptcy and now eleven games without a win, it is becoming more and more dicey for the Kraichgauer in the fight against relegation from the Bundesliga. Apart from a shot by substitute Andrej Kramaric in the 82nd minute, the guests showed an extremely harmless offensive performance and deserved to leave the pitch as losers.

FCA won 1-0 against Gladbach and Leverkusen and won the next treble in their own stadium. In front of 25,872 spectators, the hosts had already celebrated two goals before Jensen's late goal in the 88th minute. At the first of Arne Engels, however, the ball had jumped to the Belgian's arm (8th minute). Shortly after the break, the video assistant intervened again because he wanted to have recognized a foul by Kelvin Yeboah before Ermedin Demirovic's goal.

The FCA attacker had caught Hoffenheim's defensive boss Kevin Vogt in the scramble for the ball unluckily with his hand in the face. Referee Patrick Ittrich watched the scene himself and followed the VAR. Vogt, however, was replaced shortly afterwards after Yeboah's goal to his annoyance, tore off his shirt in frustration and took a seat on the substitutes' bench scolding.

Hoffenheim without brilliant ideas

His new boss Matarazzo had gone despite his botched debut in the 1:3 against Bayer Leverkusen with a lot of confidence in the guest appearance at FCA. "I am of the opinion that we have arrived in the situation. And I'm hoping for a good energy on the pitch," said the 45-year-old before kick-off on the DAZN microphone.

With the return of Vogt to the starting eleven, the coach wanted to stabilize the defense and provide more calm in the game structure. But the first minutes clearly belonged to the hosts. After just over seven minutes, the ball was in the Hoffenheim net when a shot was faked by Engels. But the hit didn't count.

After two recent 1-0 home wins, the spirited start of the hosts fueled the hopes of the fans for another success. Increasingly, however, a tough battle developed between the two teams with many interruptions and uninspiring ideas.

There was little to see of the once vaunted Hoffenheim offensive, only Christoph Baumgartner stood out positively. On the other side, Ermedin Demirovic and Mergim Berisha created some danger shortly before the break, but their shots were blocked.

With a lot of energy, the Augsburg came out of the dressing room, quickly they cheered the second time. New signing Yeboah, who was in the starting eleven for the first time, claimed the ball in the Hoffenheim penalty area, Demirovic first hit the post and was then successful in the aftermath. But again, the joy was premature. Referee Ittrich decided despite all discussions again against the Augsburg.

Without the then replaced defensive veteran Vogt, the Hoffenheimers came under increasing pressure, could hardly provide relief forward. After a corner kick from Engels and a header from Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, Jensen rewarded his team for a committed performance with the winning goal.
