In bad shape in the league, Rennes mortgaged its chances of qualifying for the Europa League by losing 2-1 against Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday in the first leg, disputed in Warsaw.
Dmytro Kryskiv (11th) and Artem Bondarenko (45th+1 from the penalty spot) gave the Ukrainians the advantage while Karl Toko Ekambi could only reduce the score for his first Red and Black goal (59th).
