A Russian missile cruiser enters the Mediterranean Sea

Yesterday, the Russian “Eastern Military District” announced in a statement that the missile cruiser “Varyag”, belonging to the Russian Pacific Fleet, had crossed the Suez Canal and entered the Mediterranean Sea.

“The previous day, the Varyag missile cruiser completed a crossing of the Red Sea, raising the Russian Navy’s Saint Andrew flag in the region,” the statement said, according to what the Russian TASS news agency reported.

The statement added, "The missile cruiser of the Pacific Fleet will operate in the Mediterranean Sea in accordance with the combat training plan previously adopted by the fleet."

The statement said that the ship's crew continues to accomplish the mission assigned to it on the long-term voyage.
