Images of smoke and ash clouds blanketing the sky in Papua New Guinea, a day after a volcano erupted on the northeastern island of New Britain.

Filmed on a flight to Lihir Island from Port Moresby, the video shows a large cloud of volcanic ash over Mount Ulawun, which erupted on Monday, November 20, erupting volcanic smoke up to 15,000 meters high.

Some residents of the remote island of Papua New Guinea are preparing to evacuate the area, while some flights from Hoskins Airport have been cancelled.

Papua New Guinea is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a belt of volcanoes and horseshoe-shaped fault lines that surround the edges of the Pacific Ocean.
