Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said today that Ukraine has lost its independence as a state and is now under the tutelage of its western colonizer after the "2014 coup".

Zakharova was quoted by TASS news agency as saying in a statement on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the coup in Ukraine in 2014: "Ukraine has turned into a poor and endangered region that dreams of integrating into the European family after it was before the coup a self-sufficient, industrially developed and densely populated republic."

"The country has lost its independence and is currently financed by Western colonialists who determine its domestic and foreign policy," Zakharova added.
