U.S. partially halts air traffic to New York due to Canada's fires

The US Civil Aviation announced a partial suspension of air traffic to New York due to the smoke of the Canadian fires.

Severe wildfires in Canada have blanketed the northeastern United States and parts of eastern Canada, turning the air grey, and authorities have warned vulnerable residents to stay indoors.

Canadian authorities evacuated the largest city in the northern province of Quebec, where firefighters worked to combat the threat of out-of-control fires in remote communities in the province's northernmost and northwestern regions.

The county's wildfire agency said more than 150 wildfires burned on Tuesday, including more than 110 fires deemed out of control.

Residents as far away as New York City and New England felt the effects of hundreds of wildfires in Quebec, causing a throat irritation.
