Geneva-SANA

The President of the General Federation of Trade Unions Jamal Al-Qadri called for finding a mechanism to address the bitter reality of workers in the occupied Arab territories and the occupied Syrian Golan resulting from the racist practices of the Israeli occupation authorities against them and depriving them of all rights guaranteed by the standards and agreements issued by the organization, and the need to hold a special session to discuss these violations, and to take appropriate action to change and reduce them.

In a speech during his participation in the 111th session of the International Labor Organization Conference held in Geneva, Qadri pointed out that Syria, under its leadership and people, was able to triumph over the terrorist war that targeted the Syrian people for their livelihood through the theft of their resources and capabilities by occupation forces that are still perched on parts of our country in cooperation with some separatist movements, in addition to the continued Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan, and said: "The suffering of Syrians increased after the devastating earthquake that struck some Syrian provinces last February, which led to the death of hundreds, the injury of thousands and the destruction of the infrastructure of tens of thousands of homes and others."

Al-Qadri stressed the importance of strengthening the role of the ILO and deepening its involvement in responding and contributing to providing programs that include various types of assistance to the three production parties in Syria to help them recover from the consequences of the earthquake, and working to lift the economic blockade and unilateral coercive measures that were illegally imposed on the Syrian people by countries and regimes that are mainly supporters and financiers of terrorism.

In his speech, Al-Qadri pointed out that reconstruction efforts require international intervention to help the Syrian people to stand up again and create a stable environment for reconstruction and investment away from the stick of sanctions and the threat of their imposition, and to seek to stop and condemn the illegal unilateral siege policies and coercive measures because their continuation is a fundamental reason for the continued suffering of all Syrians inside and outside Syria.

He considered the need for the International Labour Organization to maintain its leading role in organizing the world of work with its specificity, whether in terms of its tripartite representation or in terms of its adoption of social dialogue between the parties to the production process as a starting point for achieving its goals, and the need to avoid the organization falling into the trap of politicization and the adoption of undesirable methods in the face of the cases of some countries, hoping for the Conference to succeed in its work and reach decisions and directions that serve the mission of the Organization.

The conference began on the fifth of this month and will continue until the 16th with the participation of Syria, represented by the team of governments, the Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Haider Ali Ahmed, the workers' team, Jamal Al-Qadri, President of the General Federation of Trade Unions, the employers' team, Ghazwan Al-Masri, President of the Syrian Chamber of Industry, in addition to the rest of the members of the Syrian delegation participating from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour.

The agenda of the conference included information and reports on the implementation of conventions and recommendations related to apprenticeships, and a discussion of the strategic objective of social protection, labor protection, and a fair transition to consider industrial policies and technology towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies, while the Director-General of the Organization devoted a report on Arab workers under Israeli occupation in Palestine, the occupied Syrian Golan and the Lebanese Shebaa Farms.
