Recently, an Australian airline made headlines when it hired a new flight attendant aged 59 years.

On the 1st local time, the New York Post reported the story of Jackie Cookson (59), who was officially hired as an international flight attendant for Qantas Airways in Australia.

According to reports, Cookson has been documenting the recruitment process since the beginning of this year by taking a video of the flight attendant challenge on his personal social media.

"People would probably say I was crazy if I told them I wanted to be a flight attendant at my age," Cookson said, adding that after Covid-19, I decided to apply for the airline after meeting my 91-year-old father in Yorkshire.

He dreamed of becoming a flight attendant since he was 20 years old, but when he got married, he abandoned his dream and worked various jobs such as a travel agent, a hospital receptionist, and a newspaper salesman, but eventually achieved his dream at the age of 59.

Announcing his final acceptance, Cookson said, "I thought if I got married, I wouldn't be able to be an airline flight attendant. It was a really stupid idea," he said, adding, "I achieved my dream, but I sincerely regret why I didn't try sooner. I've waited until this age for nothing."

He continued, "If there's something you really want to do, go for it. I've achieved my dream, and of course you who watch this video can do it too," he said, adding, "It's okay if you fail. The challenge itself is meaningful."

He added, "It was hard because I had been studying for a long time, but I gave everything I had to become a flight attendant, and I achieved my dream."

Like any new employee, he shared his nervousness about going to work for the first time, saying, "I love people and I'm looking forward to working with clients. I'm confident that I'll adapt well."

Cookson successfully completed his first flight from Sydney to Los Angeles as a new international flight attendant for Qantas on March 3 local time.

Local fans who watched Cookson's challenge celebrated the new beginning with reactions such as "I'm so proud," "I support the challenge," and "You've given me courage."

Qantas, meanwhile, has recently hired new hires from a wide range of backgrounds, including former accountants, nurses, university professors, farmers and police officers, for those looking for a new career.
