06:40: Moscow says it has repelled a Ukrainian "large-scale offensive"

Russia claims on Monday to have repelled a "large-scale offensive" Ukrainian in the Donbass, without Kiev immediately confirming having carried out this operation.

"On the morning of June 4, the enemy launched a large-scale offensive in five sectors of the front in the direction of the south of the Donetsk region," the Russian Defense Ministry said, without specifying the exact location of the battle. "The enemy has not achieved its goal, it has not succeeded," he added, accompanying his announcement with a video showing what are presented as Ukrainian tanks filmed from the air being destroyed by Russian forces.

According to the ministry, the Chief of Staff of the Russian Army, General Valery Gerasimov, "was during this period at one of the advanced command posts in this direction".

06:30: NATO again calls on Erdogan to lift veto against Sweden

The NATO Secretary General on Sunday called on Turkey to lift its objections against Sweden for "fulfilling its obligations" and finalize its membership of the Alliance "as soon as possible". Jens Stoltenberg, who hailed "a productive meeting", was speaking at the end of two hours of talks in Istanbul with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reinvested the day before for a new five-year term at the head of the country.

Turkey has been blocking Sweden's entry into the Atlantic Alliance for thirteen months, reproaching it for its leniency towards the Kurdish militants it hosts on its soil. For Jens Stoltenberg "it is time" for this accession to be confirmed before the Alliance's summit in Vilnius on 11th and 12th July. To this end, he announced the creation of a "permanent mechanism" between NATO and Turkey with a forthcoming meeting "in the week of June 12" - without specifying where it will be held.
