The Economic Affairs and Energy Committee of the People's Assembly discussed during a meeting today with the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, Chairman of the Economic Committee, a number of living, investment and service issues related to the work of the committee.

The Chairman and members of the Committee stressed the need to improve the living situation and the level of salaries and wages, combat kinks and corruption, support local production, grant industrialists, traders and investors the necessary facilities in terms of securing production requirements, create an appropriate investment environment in various sectors, especially in the agricultural sector, and enhance the movement of exports, calling for strict combating the phenomenon of smuggling, and controlling the prices of goods and products varying from one governorate to another.

In response to questions from the Chairman and members of the Committee, Minister Al-Khalil explained that improving the living conditions and the reality of salaries and wages for state workers is a priority for the government, in addition to continuing the steps to restructure the subsidy to ensure that it reaches its actual beneficiaries and directs it towards the most needy groups in society, pointing out that the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people have greatly affected the national economy.

Minister Al-Khalil pointed out that after rationalizing imports and limiting it to basic materials, the rationalization process is currently being monitored with the intensification of efforts to combat smuggling and strengthen the internal transport sector, indicating that the ministry issued a form to assess the investment environment in Syria and was sent to all public authorities to identify the obstacles and problems that the business environment suffers from locally, whether legislative, regulatory or procedural, and to identify the strengths and weaknesses in order to take appropriate measures to enhance confidence in the business and investment climate in Syria, and stimulate economic movement and competitiveness. The national economy in the international arena.
