The Directorate of Agriculture in Sweida announced today the start of receiving applications from farmers affected by their agricultural production, within the areas affected by the cold precipitation that the governorate witnessed last week.

The assistant director of agriculture in Suwayda, Engineer Alaa Shehayeb, said in a statement to the SANA correspondent today that the damage ranged between 10 and 100 percent, and focused, according to the preliminary disclosure conducted by the committees concerned with the directorate, on apple crops in its main cultivation sites, almonds, vine, wheat, and barley in the villages and towns of Dhibin, Iman, Al-Anat and Khazma.

Shehayeb indicated that the reception of applications continues until the fourteenth of this month within the agricultural departments, and extension units in the regions of the governorate, for sites where the damage rate reached 50 percent or more, and obtained agricultural organization documents in order to conduct the necessary disclosures to estimate the damages, determine their percentage, and study the possibility of compensation necessary for farmers.

On the 29th of last month, Suwayda governorate witnessed thunderstorms accompanied by quantities of hail, causing damage in a number of areas.
