Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakhareva stressed that the United States is unable to separate the arms control file from the general political context in relations with Russia.

Asked about US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan's remarks on arms control, Zakharova said: "Washington stubbornly continues to ignore the causes that led to the current crisis in this matter, and representatives of the United States continue to pretend that this crisis has nothing to do with the US policy of overt hostility towards us, which ultimately acquired the final form of an all-out hybrid war against the Russian Federation."

Zakharova stressed that the United States will not succeed in separating the practical aspects of arms control from the general political context in its relationship with Russia and no one should be under any illusion about this.

Zakharova pointed out that Moscow believes that raising this issue is not justified and in fact does not contain any fundamentally new points that would respond to Russian concerns and take its positions into account.

"We are talking about the same disturbing calls for Russia to immediately resume cooperation with the United States in the field of arms control, to draw up a new agreement to replace the START treaty that expires in 2026 and of course on American terms," she said.

"We have seen no indication that for Washington's stated commitment to arms control, Washington is ready to abandon the goal of strategically defeating Russia and effectively removing it from the international arena as a sovereign state and political player," Zakharova said.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the United States still ignores the causes that led to the crisis over the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START).
