In a serious accident near Frankfurt's Palmengarten on Saturday afternoon, three people were injured, some of them life-threatening, including two children aged 8 and 11. The eight-year-old boy has since died. As a police spokesman said on request, a convertible has rolled over there. It is a small car.

When the vehicle was on the road at 15:30 p.m. in Frankfurt's Westend on Siesmayerstraße, it came off the road for an unknown reason and overturned. Both children were so badly injured that one of them had to be resuscitated. This later succumbed to the injuries.

How exactly the accident could have occurred is completely unclear. Among other things, it is suspected that when the car arrived off the roadway, it drove into a metal barrier that stood in front of a tree, which then catapulted the car up like a ramp. As the spokesman said, this is now to be clarified by an accident expert.

The police are also relying on the testimony of witnesses who may have observed the accident. The question of whether the vehicle was traveling at too high a speed is also investigated.

The police were on site with numerous patrols, the officers cordoned off the accident site extensively.
