Tunis-SANA

Tunisian Finance Minister Sihem Nemsia confirmed that the government has embarked on a promising reform program linked to national sovereignty, social peace and justice.

Tunisia's Nessma TV quoted the finance minister as saying yesterday in response to MPs' questions during a plenary session of the Tunisian parliament: "We do not accept any dictates. Our reforms will be Tunisian. Tunisian par excellence."

"In our relationship with the IMF or any other donor... The state will not give up its social role, and this role should be developed by providing funding, but according to our programs and choices."

Tunisia reached a preliminary agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) last October in exchange for a loan to support its economy, but discussions between the two sides have since stalled, with the IMF trying to impose unacceptable dictates on Tunisia.
