Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterated Moscow's position rejecting NATO's expansionist policy, noting that it contradicts Russia's security.

TASS quoted Peskov as saying during a press briefing today: "Russia seeks to ensure its own security, which contradicts NATO's expansion towards the Russian border, and excludes Ukraine's accession to the alliance."

Peskov added: "Unfortunately, Washington itself is still the one who sets the main course in NATO, and European countries are only obedient tools."

Peskov noted that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's statements about joining NATO indicate Kiev's unwillingness and inability to resolve the Ukrainian conflict at the negotiating table.

On the other hand, Peskov pointed to the deterioration of relations between his country and Poland, due to Warsaw's hostile attitudes against Russia.

Commenting on the Polish authorities' renaming of the Russian city of Kaliningrad to one of its old names (Klolevitz), Peskov said: "For a long period of history Poland was part of our state, so we have a lot in common. The rest of the time, Poland has always been our enemy, harming our state, waging wars against us, and supporting those who wage wars against us."
