At a demonstration on World Children's Day in Leipzig, the police clashed with the Saxon Left Party member of parliament Juliane Nagel. The Saxony police said on Twitter on Thursday evening: "There is the disruption of an official act in the room. Investigations are currently underway into the exact circumstances."

A police spokesman told the German Press Agency that it was not an arrest. Nagel had "become part of a police measure". There is the accusation of a physical attack on police officers in the room. "The exact circumstances of the facts are part of current investigations," the police said.

Pyrotechnics and masked demonstrators

Nagel is also a city councillor in Leipzig and had registered the demonstration on the occasion of Children's Day. The politician spoke later in the evening in a video distributed via Twitter. She had observed how the police had established the identities of two people, and then came into focus herself. "I was standing there, a police officer first insulted or insulted me. Then he pushed me out of the way. Then it occurred to him that I had allegedly physically assaulted him."

She was handcuffed and dragged relatively brutally to a police car. "In the police car, I was also told that the officers don't give a shit if I'm a member of parliament." Then her lawyer made phone calls and pointed out to the police "that she can't proceed like this," Nagel said. She was finally released after an identity check.

According to police, there were around 170 participants at the demonstration, some of them were masked. The chairman of the meeting had to point out the meeting requirements several times. Occasionally, pyrotechnics were also ignited. According to the police, there were charges for violations of the Assembly Act and for resisting police officers.
