Why this book?

  • Because the eighth volume of this series can be read at any age with candor and delight. A breath of fresh air sweeps the reader who follows the intrepid Enola in a devilishly well-crafted adventure. Enola, who upside down reads Alone, is a resourceful character, a little mischievous, cheeky in her spare time, any preteen recognizes herself in her features.
  • Because it is the female version of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes with a candid and fun side very pleasant. Even when you are not a "young adult" yourself, you take real pleasure in following the adventures of this young girl a bit feminist for the century in which she evolves. She really has nothing to envy to her brother. What energy! What a woman!
  • Because the characters, the settings, the investigation, everything rings true and makes us have a good time reading. Tweens will love this series without a shadow of a doubt. A volume VIII that makes you want to become a budding investigator.

The plot. Enola learns that her friend Cecily is being held prisoner by her father while waiting for her wedding. Even though she will have to fight with Cecily's two personalities, the right-handed and the left-handed, and rummage through her father's belongings, she has made a promise to give Cecily freedom.

The characters. Enola younger sister of Sherlock Holmes, also present in the story. Lady Cecily Alastair, a young girl from a good family struggling with the strict upbringing of her father Baron Sir Eustace Alastair. His mother Lady Theodora. Lady Vienna Steadwell respective friend of their mother.

The author. Nancy Springer (born 1948) is an American author and professor of fantasy, science fiction and young adult literature. A specialist in character hijacking, she is the author of a series of detective novels for young people, "The Investigations of Enola Holmes".

This book was read independently of the others, but wanting to discover the whole series and even the movies.
