China today called on the United States to take full responsibility for the current difficulties hindering military exchanges between the two countries.
Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Tan Kefei was quoted by Xinhua news agency as saying in response to U.S. allegations that China had rejected its request for a meeting between the defense ministers of the two countries in Singapore: China attaches importance to the development of military-to-military relations and communication at all levels, and military contacts and exchanges between the two countries have never stopped.
Tan stressed that dialogues cannot continue and continue when principles are not followed, nor can contacts be made without a baseline, adding that the U.S. side pledges to strengthen communication on the one hand and create obstacles on the other, ignoring China's concerns, so this is not a committed position of communication.
Tan stressed that the U.S. side should show good faith in its actions, correct its mistakes, and create the necessary conditions and environment for communication and exchanges between the two sides.
