A 26-year-old tourist died Monday while on vacation in Rhodes, Greece. According to information from the Guardian and Sky News, the young man was paddleboarding in the waters of the Mediterranean when he was "struck by lightning". His girlfriend was present during the tragedy. Despite the bad weather, she was on the beach filming him.

Alerted, the emergency services quickly went to the scene to help the victim who immediately fell into the water. When they arrived, the tourist was inanimate, says BFM. Despite their intervention, he did not survive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the young man, a British national, has not been revealed. An investigation has been opened to determine the precise circumstances of the events. "We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Rhodes and are in contact with local authorities," the Foreign and Commonwealth Office told the Guardian.
