"Dangerous", "Useless", "just to annoy motorists"... The public consultation launched by the City of Paris on the reserved lane on the ring road ended this Sunday, May 28. And not surprisingly, the "cons" were heard.

Launched on April 17, this consultation aimed to survey Ile-de-France residents, users of the 35 kilometers of the Paris ring road, about the sustainability of this route set up for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, imperative of the specifications of the Olympic Organizing Committee (IOC).

A very large majority against

Privilege of officials and delegations throughout the games, the City of Paris wishes to "take advantage of the legacy of the Olympic Games" and "develop a more virtuous and economical use of the car" between the gates of Sèvres (15th arrondissement) and Bercy (12th arrondissement). To summarize: reserve this lane for "carpooling", i.e. all vehicles that contain at least two passengers.

A total of 6,565 reviews were left on the site dedicated to the consultation. Our colleagues from Le Parisien were responsible for analyzing these answers and retain 85.8% of unfavorable opinion of the project, against 13.5% who are for this transformation.

Thus, with nearly 1.2 million daily vehicles using the ring, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, users fear an increase in traffic jams, and consequently, pollution.

A project still to be adjusted

For or against this reserved lane, contributors did not fail to share their ideas to limit traffic such as "burying or covering the periphery and greening sections", increasing the number of park-and-ride facilities around the capital or setting up an "urban toll".

Quoted by Le Parisien, David Belliard, Anne Hidalgo's deputy in charge of the transformation of public space, ensures that the municipality will "take the time to analyze everything that has been said" and take "into account the proposals, on the users authorized to use the lanes, such as people with reduced mobility, VTC or two-wheelers for example": "We are ready to discuss and adjust the project."

A project that the Town Hall does not intend to abandon despite the unfavorable remarks as had already specified David Belliard and Emmanuel Grégoire who specified that this consultation had no binding power.
