A massive drone strike was carried out on the
Russian capital, Moscow. It happened shortly after Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said he would strike back at Russian airstrikes, which Ukraine denies was behind it.

The exterior walls of high-rise apartments in
downtown Moscow were blackened, and windows were broken in places.

This morning (30th) local time, a series of simultaneous drone attacks were carried out in the city of Moscow.

Rescue teams were dispatched and residents were evacuated.

[Residents of affected areas in Moscow: At first, they didn't know there was an explosion and complied with the instructions of the security team to evacuate.]

The mayor of Moscow said that "several apartments were partially damaged" and that "two residents went to the hospital, but no one was seriously injured."

Local Russian media reported that "about 2 drones took part in the attack on Moscow."

"Some were shot down by Russian air defenses on the outskirts of Moscow," he said, adding that explosions were heard in outlying cities, as well as black smoke.

[Petrenko/Russian investigative agency spokesman: We have collected the wreckage of the downed drone and are conducting an investigation.]

The drones reportedly flew from the southwestern direction of Ukraine, and Moscow and Ukraine's front line are about 25,1 kilometers apart.

Russia has accused Ukraine of being behind it, which Ukraine has denied.

There are speculations that the attack by anti-Putin militias in Russia is possible, as well as that it may be a plot by the Russian government to issue a general mobilization order.

The attack, which came shortly after Russia launched more than 100 drone missile attacks on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy himself said a major counteroffensive was imminent, has raised concerns about the possibility of escalation.
