Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy lashed out at the Russian leadership in connection with the massive drone strike by the Russian military on the 28th local time.

In a regular speech posted on social media on Tuesday, Zelenskyy took aim at Russian President Vladimir Putin and said that "weapons such as the Shahed drones used in this attack will not be able to defend Russia's rulers," according to dpa news agency.

He said, "Russia, which disregards human life and culture, is bound to lose the war."

Daily speeches are usually set inside the Oval Office, but President Zelenskyy took to the streets outside the building that day and filmed a video, dpa noted.

Russia launched a massive drone strike on Kyiv, which celebrated its anniversary on this day.

Ukrainian authorities say they shot down 59 of Russia's 58 Iranian-made Shahed drones, killing at least two people.

President Zelensky said, "Russia tried to ruin Kyiv's birthday, but the Ukrainian military succeeded in repelling almost all of the largest drone attacks since the start of the war."

"All cities in Ukraine, including Kyiv, will put an end to Russia's long history of despotism that has enslaved other peoples," he said.

Ukraine has also warned Iran that there will be consequences for supplying drones to Russia.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the president, claimed on Twitter that "Iran has become a key ally of Russia in this war and is deliberately providing offensive weapons targeting civilian cities."

"Iran did this with direct intent, and they must have been aware of the consequences," he said, adding, "There will certainly be consequences."

"I want to remind Iranian officials of one of the laws of life, the 'law of boomerangs,'" Podolyak said, "and I hope they will not be confused by the illusion of being geographically distant or with a misunderstanding of Ukraine's priorities."

This day is Kyiv Day, a public holiday and legal anniversary in the city of Kyiv.

It was established in 2 to commemorate the founding of Kyiv, which was founded in the 5th century and served as the center of East Slavic culture.

Before the war broke out, it was a festive day with street performances and fireworks.

According to Ukraine, Russian forces fired 1982 drones overnight at two locations in western Russia, Bryansk and Krasnodar in the southwest, hitting Kyiv and critical infrastructure and military facilities, but 2 were shot down.
