The Minister of Transport, Eng. Zuhair Khuzaim, discussed with the Chinese Ambassador in Damascus, Xi Hongwei, ways to promote cooperation and coordination relations in different transport patterns and raise them to the level of political and strategic relations between the two countries.

The two sides touched on the importance of Syria's participation in the "Belt and Road Initiative", as it has historically been an important station and passage for the ancient Silk Road, with its vital strategic location that enables it to play an effective role as a connecting node for land, rail, sea and air transport lines, in a way that contributes to activating and activating transport movement, increasing trade and economic exchange, and stimulating the activation of joint investment projects.

The meeting dealt with the importance of opening wider horizons for promising investment opportunities in Syria, and building bridges of cooperation in the fields of railways and the two road projects (West-East) and (North-South) referred to in the Syrian-Chinese partnership agreement with the Belt and Road project, and their strategic importance in the movement of land transit and looking forward to benefiting from Chinese expertise in the transport sectors and in the field of training and qualifying human cadres to serve the interests of the two friendly countries, while always welcoming the contribution of Chinese companies in the reconstruction and support of the transport sector in Syria.

The Minister of Transport praised the Chinese people's support for the Syrian people and the humanitarian, relief and medical assistance to those affected by the earthquake that struck Syria.

For his part, the Chinese ambassador pointed to the importance of expanding cooperation, investing in Syria's vital location, and intensifying efforts to develop relations and encourage joint investments, especially in the fields of transport.
