Damascus-SANA

The People's Assembly confirmed that the day of May 29, 1945 embodied a national painting and an immortal epic in the travel of the heroism of the proud Syrian Arab people, where the men of the garrison of the Syrian Parliament at the time refused to perform the military salute to the flag of the brutal French occupier, and sacrificed their lives and blood in defense of the dignity and pride of their country.

The Council explained in a statement issued today on the occasion of the seventy-eighth anniversary of the martyrdom of the garrison of Parliament, and SANA received a copy of it, that the French at that time fired lava shells towards the parliament building, and destroyed its façade, and their crimes extended to the bombing of the capital Damascus with heavy weapons fire, which resulted in injuries and the rise of many martyrs, stressing that in return for that, the Syrian people, as usual, showed unparalleled valor in advance convoys of martyrs, in a heroic insistence on expelling the colonizer and achieving all national aspirations to gain independence Full and full sovereignty over his land.

The Council pointed out that what Syria has been subjected to today and for more than 12 years of fierce military, media and political war and an unjust economic blockade by the forces of evil and terrorism, led by the United States of America and the usurping Zionist entity and their agents, are all desperate attempts to impose a new colonial reality in the region, and mandates in modern patterns and forms, with the aim of weakening Syria's active role at the regional and global levels and serving the malicious Western agendas.

The Council added: "The aim of all this is to dissuade us from our principled positions in support of just causes, and our determination to restore all the lands and rights usurped by the steadfastness and sacrifices of our proud Syrian people, and the heroism of the brave men of our armed forces, and the wisdom of our leader, President Bashar al-Assad."

The Council concluded its statement by paying the highest tribute to the souls of the great martyrs of Syria, and to the men of our armed forces heroes in all their formations who devoted the values of resistance and martyrdom with their souls and pure blood that watered the soil of the homeland and resulted in a resounding victory over the invaders, stressing that the memory of the epic garrison of Parliament will remain a beacon that illuminates the path of free people and fighters throughout generations.
