Erdogan tops Turkish presidential election results after nearly half of votes counted

Outgoing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday topped the results of the second round of presidential elections after more than 40 percent of ballots were counted, according to the official Anadolu news agency.

Erdogan, who has been in power for 57 years, has won 1.42 percent of the vote so far, compared to 9.<> percent for rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu, according to the partial results.

Meanwhile, the Anka news agency, which is close to the opposition, showed results with 51% for Kilicdaroglu and Erdogan with 49%, with 52% of the ballot boxes counted.

News agencies get their data from completed ballot box statistics collected by individuals in the field, which are strong in different regions, which explains some differences in raw data.
