China has strongly pressured the Japanese government on Japan's plan to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean, asking, "Why don't you discharge it into your own lake?"

According to Chinese media such as the New York Times on the 28th, at the 27th session of the World Health Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland, on the 76th local time, a representative of China said, "If contaminated water is safe, why doesn't Japan use it on its own?"

"Why don't we use it for agriculture or industry, and why don't we discharge it into domestic lakes?" he said, adding, "Japan should explain this responsibly."

He also questioned whether "releasing polluted water into the ocean is the only viable option" and criticized it, saying, "This saves your own money, but it plunges the world into disaster."

The representative of China said, "What is Japan's intention to discharge polluted water into the sea even though it knows that it is harmful?" and said, "Any act that harms the common interests of mankind for the sake of its own short-term self-interest must be severely condemned and resolutely rejected."

"We once again urge Japan to faithfully fulfill its international obligations, fully negotiate with stakeholders and international organizations, including its neighbors, and dispose of contaminated water in the safest and most appropriate manner and subject to strict international supervision."
