In preparation for the approach of summer and the increase in the likelihood of fires, Latakia Governorate has developed a plan to manage forest fires, by harnessing the efforts of public authorities and providing them with logistical capabilities and distributing them, in coordination with the fire system and local and civil committees in each region.

The Governor of Latakia, Eng. Amer Hilal, explained during an expanded meeting in this regard at the governorate building, that the fire management plan noted a role for each public entity and the positioning of its mechanisms and resources, to involve them in combat operations when needed, in coordination with the operations room to avoid any gap, and with all participating and active parties to ward off the risk of fires and mitigate their losses on vegetation and public and private property.

For his part, Major General, Chairman of the Security and Military Committee, stressed the readiness of the Syrian Arab Army units to support firefighting efforts with equipment and human cadres to remove the dangers that they may cause, pointing to the importance of achieving the greatest degree of communication and coordination between the people, army members, the operations room and the fire system.

The Secretary of the Latakia Branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Engineer Haitham Ismail, spoke about the role of the local community and its activation, and the responsibility entrusted to administrative units, agricultural associations, party teams and private sector mechanisms, calling for the development of a coordination mechanism at the level of each administrative unit to secure the initial community response until the arrival of fire brigades.

The Director of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Bassem Duba, gave a presentation on the aspects of the plan, the distribution of existing capabilities, the causes of the spread of fires, their seriousness and obstacles, and the need to spread awareness of the dangers of some wrong practices that cause fires, pointing to the expansion made by the Directorate on the plan compared to previous years to develop the mechanism of work in it.

Doba pointed out that the Directorate of Agriculture has developed a plan to restore 1800,12 kilometers of forest roads and build about 5.37 kilometers within the forests, pointing out that the Directorate has 20 fire trucks of different sizes, 5 tractors and trailers, 10 fire stations and <> control towers, and concrete water tanks and water fountains have been equipped to facilitate the supply of water to vehicles, in addition to initiating the formation of rapid intervention teams.

Latakia Police Commander Maj. Gen. Abdo Karam pointed to the alert of all police units, following up on the perpetrators of the fires, arresting those found responsible, coordinating the efforts of firefighting operations on the ground and providing the required support while relying on popular action.

The commander of the Latakia Fire Brigade, Lt. Col. Muhannad Jaafar, pointed to the establishment of 7 rural centers covering remote areas of the province, equipped with cadres and mechanisms to prevent the spread of fires, stressing the regiment's readiness to deal with these disasters.

Director of Water Resources Eng. Firas Haidar pointed out that the directorate is ready to provide all capabilities and put them at the disposal of fire brigades when needed, through their work points in the areas of dams and pumping stations.
