Tehran-SANA

Two members of Iran's border guard forces were killed and two others were injured today when Afghan Taliban elements targeted the Sassoli border crossing in the Zabul district of Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province.

The Iranian news agency IRNA quoted the media center of the border guard command as saying: "The Iranian border guard forces responded to the attack of the Taliban elements, inflicting heavy losses in their ranks, and there will be additional news later."

Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei, deputy commander of Iran's Internal Security Forces, said Taliban forces opened fire at a police headquarters at the Sassoli crossing, in violation of good neighborliness standards and international law.

Rezaei said the Taliban's action was met with a decisive response from Iran's border guard forces, noting that the country's police chief issued decisive orders to border guards to bravely defend the border and not allow anyone to violate it.

Rezaei called for Afghanistan's current rulers to be held accountable for their ill-considered actions that violate international principles.
