The Peruvian Congress has declared Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador an undesirable person for remarks about his Peruvian counterpart Dina Boluarte. A majority of lawmakers approved Thursday's motion accusing Obrador of violating the principle of non-interference in the affairs of another state. The motion instructs the Ministries of the Interior and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs to "take the necessary measures to ensure that the Mexican president does not enter the national territory".

Obrador had described his Peruvian colleague Boluarte as a "usurper". He also refused to give her the chairmanship of the Pacific Alliance. Obrador justified this by saying that Boluarte was not the rightful president.

Boluarte took office after former left-wing President Pedro Castillo was removed from office and arrested at the end of last year. The reason was Castillo's attempt to dissolve Congress and rule by decree.

Other Latin American allies with left-leaning governments criticized the impeachment. Mexico granted asylum to Castillo's wife and children. In February, Peru withdrew its ambassador from the country because of Mexico's support for Castillo.
