On 28 March, it was the scene of a bloody settling of scores with the death of two men killed by automatic weapons fire. A well-known deal point, the commercial slab of Gros Chêne in the Maurepas district of Rennes is not really a place to linger. Lugubrious and poorly frequented, it perfectly symbolizes this slab urbanism in vogue in the 1960s and 1970s but which has now aged very badly.

To open up and revitalize the district, the city has recorded its demolition with a start of work planned for next year. By 2026, the car park will have been removed, leaving room for a fully pedestrian slab. The offer of shops and services will also be enriched with the installation of a pharmacy, an optician and a medical office.

A Museum of Fine Arts will open in summer 2024

In full mutation with the arrival of line B of the metro, Maurepas, classified among the districts of republican reconquest, will also host a branch of the Museum of Fine Arts of the city which will open in the summer of 2024 at the foot of the famous banana-shaped building bar.

Right next door, a toy library, a daycare center and a recreation center will also emerge. "I hope that this will encourage Rennes people to come and discover our neighborhood where there are many beautiful things to see," a social worker told us last year.
