The Minister of Health said on Wednesday that he wanted to set up by the summer of 2023 "paid stand-by" for nurses at the hospital. "It exists for doctors but it does not exist for nurses," said François Braun on BFMTV.

This measure will be announced and detailed, along with a series of other proposals on the hospital, "before the end of June for implementation as soon as possible," said the minister. As a high-risk summer approaches, François Braun hopes to avoid holes in the schedules of health facilities.

The need to compensate nurses "properly"

"It makes it possible to anticipate," explained the Minister of Health about the penalties paid. "It allows health executives not to have to call twenty people to find one and inquire about them over the weekend." For the system to work, however, these penalties must be "properly compensated", nurses "must be remunerated in a way that corresponds to the effort they make".

A paid on-call system has already been created in 2022 for liberal nurses working in the evening or on weekends at the request of the Samu. In Ile-de-France, the regional health agency (ARS) finances "shared on-call duty" for liberal nurses likely to travel at night in several nursing homes in the same sector. At the hospital, some specialized nurses (anesthesia, surgery) can benefit from on-call duty, but their consideration often gives rise to litigation before the administrative courts.
