A 44-year-old man, suffering from bipolar disorder, was sentenced Tuesday before the judicial court of Annecy (Haute-Savoie) for aggravated violence. On April 28, 2022, he had stabbed 19 times with a kitchen knife an octogenarian with whom he had been living for a few months. Then he left the apartment to play table tennis.

He says he is a victim of abuse

The paths of the two men had crossed a few months earlier in the street by chance, saysLe Dauphiné Libéré, who attended the hearing. The octogenarian had been touched by the story of the forty-year-old: his mother, with whom he lives, would have subjected him to abuse, according to his account. The 88-year-old offered her to stay in one of the bedrooms of his apartment without knowing that his new roommate was bipolar, that he had just stopped his treatment and that he was actually abusing his mother.

Tuesday, the forty-year-old was sentenced to four years in prison, including six months suspended probation, an obligation of care, and the prohibition to enter into contact with the victim, still very shocked by the facts.
