Today, the Armenian community in Al-Hasakah commemorated the 105th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia, as part of a series of events held at the St. Huvano Kerbet Armenian Orthodox Church, which included songs and poems in Arabic and Armenian glorifying independence and affirming adherence to the land.
The pastor of the Armenian Orthodox Archdiocese in Aleppo and its dependencies, Bishop Makar Ashkarian, said in a statement to SANA: "We celebrate today from the land of the island on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the independence of Armenia, which came as a result of the sacrifices of the martyrs who died in the genocide at the hands of the Ottoman authorities, and our presence today in Hasakah as a metropolitan of the Armenian Orthodox to promote love for the land and adhere to it and give hope, especially after the difficult circumstances that Syria in general and the island region in particular are going through.
Ashkarian added: The Armenian people and the Syrian people have common denominators in terms of their love of sacrifice, courage and heroism, and today we suffer from the new descendants of the Ottomans who worked to deepen the wounds of the Syrians and ruin their lives through the violations they commit against the people of Syria to restore their criminal history again.
On the occasion of independence and the celebration of this anniversary, we bow before the sacrifices of the martyrs in Armenia and Syria, and we wish a speedy recovery to the wounded, and we pray to President Bashar al-Assad to remain with his strength and wisdom a guarantor of this land so that it can return as it was before, strong and steadfast in the face of anyone who tries to undermine it.
A number of members of the community participating in the celebration pointed out that the Armenian and Syrian people are one people who love life, reject all forms of injustice and support all peoples seeking freedom, and their participation today comes thanks to the state of security and stability we are living in after 12 years of wars through which they wanted to destroy Syria and blow its social unity.
