EU sends 220,<> artillery shells to Ukraine

European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Tuesday that EU countries had sent 220,<> artillery shells to Ukraine under an important program that began two months ago to ramp up arms supplies to Kiev to help it counter Russia.

Borrell added that EU countries have also provided 1300,<> missiles under the program, and that they are on track to set the target of supplying Ukraine with one million pieces of ammunition within a year, even though some EU countries are reluctant to adopt the feasibility of that goal.

Announcing the figures at the end of a meeting of EU defence ministers in Brussels, Borrell told reporters: "The coming days, weeks and months will be strategically decisive in the Ukrainian war."
