The Syrian Ambassador in Tehran, Dr. Shafik Diop, discussed today with the President of the Iranian-Syrian People's Friendship Association and Chairman of the Palestine Support Committee in the Iranian Presidency, Mohammad Hassan Akhtari, ways to enhance cooperation between Syria and Iran in all fields, especially economic.

During the meeting, Ambassador Diop pointed to the importance of the recent visit and meetings held by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi with President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus in opening wide horizons for cooperation between the two countries, noting that Syrian-Iranian relations are a model to be followed and have a long history.

Diop stressed the importance of increasing and expanding joint and mutual projects and investments between the two countries in all sectors, in order to serve the interests of the two peoples and friendly countries, noting that the cooperation of Syria and Iran during the past four decades paved the way for the important transformations taking place in the region and the world at this stage.

For his part, Akhtari stressed the need to deepen and expand the circle of relations between Syria and Iran, especially economic and trade, through the establishment of mutual joint exhibitions and the implementation of strategic projects that promote the economies of both countries.

Akhtari pointed out that the regional developments in the world today are a source of inconvenience for the Zionist entity, stressing the importance of the strategic role played by Syria in the region, and the importance of maintaining and strengthening strategic relations between Syria and Iran in all fields.

The meeting was attended by former Iranian ambassador to Lebanon and Jordan Ahmad Dostmaljian and some of Akhtari's aides.
