A bright flash appears in the sky of Australia

Australian driver Jim Robertson has posted images of a bright light in the sky, where the video camera installed in front of the driver recorded this extraordinary moment when the sky lit up at 9.22pm last Saturday night while he was driving on University Road in the city of Townsville in the Australian state of Queensland.

There were numerous reports in Queensland of blinking blue, green, white, and even orange that brightened sharply, followed by loud noise across the region.

Robertson said he saw a powerful flash of light in the sky, which lasted only a few seconds. "We were terrified and thought that the country had been invaded, or that a plane exploded in Asmaa or that it cut a space rocket that fell on us," he told the ninth news bulletin.

The man described what happened as a lucky test to capture the flash with the camera mounted on the car.

Residents in Queensland from the far west to the northernmost city of Cooktown saw the flash, or light, while residents in Perth and Sydney said they had seen the phenomenon.

Dr Brad Tucker, an astrophysicist from Australia's National University, said it was certainly a meteorite. He said the incident was most likely caused by a meteorite between Mars and Jupiter. "When this meteorite hit Earth's atmosphere, this bright flash and this display that appeared in the sky formed. Dr. Tucker stressed that the meteorite can travel at a speed of up to one hundred thousand to 150 thousand kilometers per hour, noting that the sound heard by the residents of this area later was caused by the meteorite crashing as it approached the Earth.

Some reports said the meteorite may have hit the Croydon area, about 600km from Townsville. Some local Croydon residents said they heard so loud that they felt their homes shaking at the time.
