he Northern Irish actor Ray Stevenson ("Rome", "The Boat") is dead. His agency confirmed to the German Press Agency on Monday that he had died on Sunday on the Italian island of Ischia. She did not provide any further details. Stevenson is said to have been in Italy for filming. The industry magazine "Deadline" had recently reported that Stevenson would play the lead role in the film "Cassino in Ischia". He was 58 years old.

Stevenson had his breakthrough as an actor with a leading role as a Roman legionnaire in the television series "Rome" (2005-2007), later he was seen in several "Thor" film adaptations as Volstagg, one of the best friends of the eponymous Marvel hero. As Musketeer Porthos in "The Three Musketeers" (2011) alongside Matthew Macfadyen and Logan Lerman, he thwarted the schemes of the scheming Christoph Waltz, and in "Vikings" (2020) he played the mysterious navigator Othere.

Last year, Stevenson starred as naval officer Jack Swinburne in the third season of the German series "Das Boot". Most recently, according to the industry magazine "Deadline", he was cast as the lead actor for the historical drama "1242: Gateway to the West". In the trailer for the not yet released "Star Wars" spinoff "Ahsoka", he can also be seen as human power user Baylan Skoll.
