One of the key facilities that
our inspectors will see at the Fukushima nuclear power plant tomorrow (23rd) is where contaminated water is stored before it is discharged into the sea.

There were last-minute negotiations with Japan over how to check this, but we'll get more details, and reporter Choi Jae-young will explain it to you.

This is the Fukushima nuclear power plant, which
our inspection team is going to enter in person tomorrow.

In particular, this area, which is called the K4 tank, is where our inspection team enters.

The Japanese and South Korean authorities engaged in a tug-of-war until the last minute over how to inspect the site.

The contaminated water discharged from the nuclear power plant may change its nuclide depending on the time of day, and even if it is purified through the Alps, a polynuclide removal facility, there may be differences in the radiation concentration depending on the filter condition.

So, first of all, the purified contaminated water is collected in the K4 tank.

And it goes through the process of mixing the contaminated water.

This is the homogenization process.

The plan is to mix the contaminated water in the K4 tank group to make the concentration of the contaminated water constant, and if the contaminated water is sampled and lower than Japan's own standards, it will be diluted in seawater to further reduce the tritium concentration and finally discharged to it.

Our inspection team will start tomorrow to check whether the equipment such as the stirring device for mixing contaminated water in the K4 tank is working properly.

And when the IAEA says that Tokyo Electric Power has divided the K4 tanks into three groups, as you can see right now, there is concern that only some of them can be sampled if they are in good condition.

So the inspectors decided to check how the samples were taken.

As there is contaminated water in the K4 tank group just before discharge, and the safety is checked here for the last time, our inspection team plans to look at the K4 tank group as thoroughly as possible.
