Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that the attempt of a Ukrainian subversive group to storm the Russian province of Belgorod is aimed at minimizing the regime's defeat in Kiev for the city of Artiomovsk.

TASS quoted Peskov as saying in remarks today: "We fully understand the purpose of this act of sabotage; to divert attention from the Artyumov axis and minimize the political impact of the Ukrainian side's loss of the city."

Peskov explained that there are enough troops and means on the site to deal with the Ukrainian attack.

The governor of Russia's Belgorod province, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced that the province's anti-terrorism law had been activated to counter these attempts.

Earlier in the day, the governor of Russia's Belgorod province, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported the entry of a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group into the territory of the Greevorovsky region of the province, noting that the army and security forces are taking the necessary measures with the aim of eliminating the attackers.
