The official spokesman for the political process in Sudan, Engineer Khaled Omar Youssef, described the Jeddah agreement for a short-term ceasefire and humanitarian arrangements as an important step to stop the war.

The spokesman stressed in press statements yesterday the need for the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to abide by the provisions of the agreement, in order to alleviate the suffering of the people, and to have the necessary will to develop the agreement into a permanent ceasefire.

The spokesman thanked and appreciated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America for standing by Sudan in this ordeal, and for harnessing efforts to reach this agreement, praising at the same time the regional and international efforts that helped achieve this step, and mobilizing humanitarian support to address the situation left by the war.

For its part, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry announced, in a statement, that it welcomed the short-term ceasefire agreement between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces.

In its statement yesterday, the Ministry affirmed the commitment of the Government of Sudan to the terms of the agreement, and expressed its hope that the agreement will achieve the objectives for which it was signed and alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people as a result of the war.

The Sudanese Armed Forces issued a statement in which it stressed that the agreement is limited to the military and technical aspects of temporary ceasefire arrangements, measures for the freedom of movement of civilians and their protection from violence and violations, as well as the evacuation of hospitals, maintenance of service facilities and related topics, without discussing any political situation, stressing its commitment to the text of the agreement.
