The activities of the Shami Rose Harvest Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture - Directorate of Intangible Heritage and the Directorate of Culture in Aleppo, kicked off this morning in the village of Neirab in Aleppo countryside, amid social rituals that distinguished farmers, through which they expressed their joy at harvesting the roses that decorated their fields.

The Director of Culture in Aleppo, Jaber Al-Sajour, said in a statement to SANA correspondent the importance of celebrating the harvest of the Shami rose, which was included on the UNESCO list of intangible human heritage, and paying attention to it by encouraging its cultivation in various regions of Syria, especially in places where its cultivation succeeds, noting its benefits and what is extracted from it from medical, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and perfume preparations.

Al-Sajour pointed out that the festival is rich in various cultural and social events, as it witnesses the establishment of a scientific symposium with the participation of a number of researchers, who talk about the value of the Shami rose and its various products of food and medicinal materials, in addition to holding an exhibition that includes the display of about a hundred varieties of which are produced for their biological and chemical properties, and introducing their scientific and economic value and the benefits that accrue to farmers working on their production, and the social and economic stability it achieves for them, and its positive repercussions on the environment.

The representative of the local community of the village of Neirab Mahmoud Sharafo spoke about the interest of the people in planting and caring for the Shami rose, because of its economic return and its social reflection in improving their living conditions, noting that the day of harvesting the Shami rose is a real wedding in which all the people of the village who inherited the cultivation of this rose from their ancestors participate.

The director of the cultural center in the village of Neirab Qassim Sharaout said: The demonstration of harvesting the Shami rose in its season constitutes a state of joy and joy for farmers, who were keen to take care of this crop for a year of care and attention, whose cultivation constitutes 30 to 40 percent of agricultural land, and harvesting the crop has become a heritage celebrated annually, and it is used in the manufacture of jams and medical uses, while the rest is marketed in local markets.

SANA camera closely monitored the farmers' harvest of the Shami rose, where Hassan Abu Ras talked about the farmers' turnout to their fields since the early morning to harvest roses amid popular songs and songs, expressing their joy at a bountiful harvest that is an important source of livelihood for them.

Farmer Abu Ali Sharafo said that he owns a field planted with the Shami rose with an area of four dunums, and is keen throughout the year to take care of his bushes, water and prune them, so that the day of harvesting comes, as he rushes with his family members to harvest the crop on a daily basis, pointing out that the cultivated areas in the village of Neirab in the Shami rose are about 22 hectares.
