Air alert in Kiev, attack in progress

Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said Russian forces have gained ground within Bakhmut itself, but do not control the city. Evgeni Prigozhin, the head of the Russian mercenaries fighting in the city said it was unlikely to fall in the next two days. Moscow views its assault on Bakhmut, a town of about 70,000 before the full-scale invasion of Russia nearly 15 months ago, as an important part of a campaign to capture the rest of the industrial part of eastern Ukraine's Donbass, which includes Bakhmut and Donetsk.
