The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that 500 US citizens, including former US President Barack Obama, were banned from entering Russian territory in response to US sanctions on Moscow.

"It is time for Washington to know that any hostile attack against Russia will not be left without a harsh response," Russia Today quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today, noting that the principle of imperative punishment will be applied consistently, whether it is to tighten sanctions pressure or to take discriminatory steps to obstruct the professional activities of Russian citizens.

Among the U.S. citizens barred from Russia, in addition to Obama, are current leaders at various levels of executive branch, former officials such as White House secretary to combat so-called "Russian disinformation" Nina Jankovich, senators and congressmen first elected last November, experts and employees of analytical centers involved in spreading anti-Russophobia and disinformation, as well as heads of companies that supply weapons to the Kiev system.
